About the person who makes Goshuin Ledger, and what this site writes about and what it does not.

Who writes this

友田 陽大 here. I collect goshuin as a hobby, and I develop the iOS app “Goshuin Ledger” on my own.

I am not a Shinto priest or a Buddhist monk, and I am not a scholar of religion or history. That distinction matters, so I write it first. This site will not present my own reading of etiquette or history as the correct one. When those subjects come up, I attribute them to the side that is in a position to judge — the notice at each shrine or temple, or the prefectural association of Shinto shrines — and name the source.

What this site writes about

There is only one subject: putting the photos, printed goshuin and memories left in your hands after a visit back into the right order, by visit date and by shrine or temple. Your goshuin book reaches its second or third volume while the photos pile up on your phone — this site writes for the person stuck at that point, as far as what to actually do.

What this site does not write about

  • The offering, the opening hours, or whether a given shrine or temple grants a goshuin. These keep being revised, and one person cannot hold them accurate. Not writing them is more useful than leaving something wrong in place. Please check the notice on the day and ask at the office.
  • Lists of particular shrines or temples as “recommended”. This site does not write about places to visit in a way that scores them against each other.
  • Images of a goshuin received from a real shrine or temple. Nor images of an office, or of someone writing one. Every screen example for the app is a dummy I drew myself.
  • Comparisons that name other apps. So as not to assert what cannot be verified from outside, comparisons are written as kinds of approach.
